Berkshire’s Historic Environment is the term used to link together all the factors which have made Berkshire what it is today. It includes: the documentary, archaeological, historical, and folk memory evidence as well as the physical environment resulting from farming, industry, commerce and general development over the centuries
The Berkshire Historic Environment Forum
The objectives of the Forum are:
(i) To share knowledge and concerns about Berkshire’s Historic Environment
(ii) To encourage cooperation between individuals and organisations
(iii) To promote care for Berkshire’s Historic Environment amongst the general public
(iv) To support local societies in pursuance of similar objectives
Current Projects
We have three current projects:-
Berkshire Electronic Archive – capturing electronic copies of historic images and transcripts of documents relevant to Berkshire. and making them available to the general public.
Berkshire War Memorials - information about all the war memorials in Berkshire. Arranged by Civil Parish/Town
Town and Village Walks – encouraging local societies to produce small documents to guide walkers through their town and village to see historic and interesting spots.
These will be reported on at our next Forum which is to be held in The Barn, Goosecroft Lane, Purley on Thames on Saturday 24th September 10:00 to 16:00
